ASALH x GLUE: Preserving Black History, Building Black Futures
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) has been the steward of Black history since 1915. GLUE is proud to actively participate in growing ASALH’s presence in Milwaukee and the Midwest/Great Lakes region.
Our President, Walter Lanier, serves on ASALH’s Executive Council and chairs the Governance Committee, helping guide the national organization while connecting local members and institutions to this historic mission.
What is ASALH?
Founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson–known as the “Father of Black History”–ASALH promotes, researches, preserves, and disseminates information about Black life, history, and culture to the global community.
Every February, ASALH sets the national Black History Month theme and convenes scholars, educators, and community leaders to advance public understanding. Programs include the annual Black History Luncheon, an international academic conference, and hundreds of local branch events across the country.
