Advisor Spotlight: Dr. Henry Louis Taylor Jr.
At GLUE, we’re proud to work alongside visionary leaders who are not only scholars but also frontline architects of community change. One such leader is Dr. Henry Louis Taylor Jr., Director of the Center for Urban Studies at the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Taylor is spearheading an ambitious, community-led revitalization plan for one of Buffalo’s most distressed neighborhoods—Census Tract 166 in the Broadway-Fillmore area. His five-year, $10 million pilot project aims to transform the area through health care access, housing redevelopment, and democratic neighborhood governance led by residents themselves.
What makes Dr. Taylor’s approach distinct is his unwavering commitment to building power from within the community. His strategy centers the voices, needs, and leadership of Black East Side residents, laying the groundwork for a replicable model of equitable urban redevelopment.
This powerful work exemplifies the kind of bold, community-rooted leadership that aligns with GLUE’s mission to transform urban ecosystems across the Great Lakes region.
