MILWAUKEE AND CHICAGO AMONG CITIES WITH BLACK MAYORS TARGETED BY TRUMP

Milwaukee Independent has published an important piece — and I encourage you to read it. 📰

While the president has labeled Milwaukee and other Black-led cities as “crime-ridden wastelands,” the facts tell a different story:

  • In Milwaukee, violent crime is down 17% year-over-year. (While acknowledging that homicides are up)

  • Chicago, Oakland, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. are reporting similar reductions.

  • These gains are the result of community-centered strategies: youth engagement, violence prevention, police-community partnerships, and public health approaches.

We should give credit where it’s due — to the journalists at Milwaukee Independent for documenting these facts, and to the local leaders and organizations who are driving real progress.

At the same time, we must stay alert. The federal intervention in Washington, D.C. shows how dangerous narratives can justify unhealthy overreach. Wisconsin deserves partnership and investment, not militarization.
